Having updated WordPress as well as the theme the visual composer didn’t work. So I uninstalled VC and reinstalled it again but that didn’t take any effect: VC doesn’t work. Furthermore WordPress says, that the ‘Envato WordPress Toolkit’ have to be updated – so I tried and ended up with a failure. Having Envato WordPress Toolkit deactivated and deleted and – of course – renamed the old file to something like ‘x_envato-wordpress-toolkit’ I tried to install again. But though it was installed WP always says that I have to install it – WP doesn’t reckognize the installation (or whatever might be the reason for that curious behaviour). By the way: VC doesn’t work as well thought its update seems to be succesfull.
Do you have the latest theme release? Please make sure to have updated theme to it’s latest version(1.9) and then proceed with Visual composer and Envato plugin update. Read this article for more information.

thanks for your fast replay. the mentioned link wasn’t that helpful – sorry. Having tried a couple of possible solutions with increasing panic attacs for temporarily loosing access to the admin-area and a lot more I finally solved the problem ;)
Well, I really don’t know how.
All I did was deleting the theme completely and reinstalling it. Having done this at least for four times I was succesful. Great!
