I changed my pages’ permalinks in the individual “edit page” and then re-saved the general permalinks but a 404 page shows up when I refresh the site.
Some examples:
https://www.okastor.com/okdesigns/contact-us-2/ — I want it to say “contact”, not “contact-us-2”
https://www.okastor.com/okdesigns/sample-page-3/ — I want it to say “portfolio”, not “sample-page-3”
Thank you,

Hello,
Please go to your root in the server, find the .htaccess file and delete it. or rename it if you want to save it. The Go back to Settings and reset permalinks.

Thank you for the suggestion.
I tried this suggestion but it didn’t solve the problem.
Any other advice?

Hello,
This is all you need to do. Try to clear cache and refresh page. Sometimes the server needs time to reflect the changes.
Let us know.

I tried that and it didn’t seem to work.
The issue that I want to resolve is as follows:
https://www.okdesigns.co/contact-us-2/— I want it to say “contact”, not “contact-us-2”
https://www.okdesigns.co/sample-page-3/— I want it to say “portfolio”, not “sample-page-3”

Hello,
Did you try to edit it right at the page’s option? Go to page’s option panel, see the page’s url and click on “Edit” change it to your wish and save.

Hi,
Yes, that was the first thing I tried. After I manually changed the URL and refreshed the page, I got a 404 page. I then had to change it back to the original URL to see my pages. I would like to customize the URL and not have it say “contact-us-2” or “sample-page-3”.
Thank you,

Hello,
Please try again. There is no issue with changing the page’s permalinks like that. I made a test in this “Sample Page” of yours. See screenshot, the page is displaying ok.
Best regards!

Hi,
I see that it worked when you tried it.
However, when I change the Portfolio page URL from “sample-page-3” to “portfolio” and refresh the page, I still get a 404 page.
Any advice?

Hello,
The problem is not the permalink. But the menu. You have set a fixed, custom link for portfolio. Not a page. See screenshot: https://www.clipular.com/c/6681827412803584.png?k=XqWjBVbhXgXUd6byBXCHdvsLldQ
In case of the custom link, it doesn’t change by default if you decide to change the page’s permalink. And this results in a 404 error.
In case of ‘pages’, if you change the link, then wordpress will automatically change all links of that page, where ever it is used.I changed the menu to the correct form. Please check your site. It’s ok now.
Best regards!

Thank you for fully resolving the issue.
For the future, I’d like to understand where I went wrong.
The reason I used the custom link is because I wanted my page to look similar enough to the page from the theme sample; I just changed it to fit my needs.
What can I do to prevent this problem from happening again and make changing the permalinks a hassle-free process?
Thank you,

Hello,
I already explained above:
In case of ‘pages’, if you change the link, then wordpress will automatically change all links of that page, wherever it is used.Just add pages to menu. It will update any url change you make to the page by default.
Best regards!
