My problem: tried updating new theme to v3 using the zip file from codecanyon, after uploading the new theme, many settings were lost and there isn’t any Specular button to get to the backups links and other settings. Without access to the Specular buttons, I cannot correct some of the settings or use a Specular settings backup.
To fix the messed up site, I replaced the new version with the previous version that I was using and everything appears to be back in place on the site.
Now is there some specific updating procedure that I need to follow for updating the Specular theme?
The simple way that WordPress themes are updated does not work, and documentation makes it sound all normal and easy but I see many others having the similar problems.
We are sorry you had any troubles with updating. Please always make sure to check the plugins after a theme update. You will see a message in your dashboard that either requires you to update included plugins (if they have an updated version) or to activate them. Some plugins get inactive during the update process.
How can I maintain all settings when I update to the new theme?
As stated earlier, after installing new version, settings are lost and the Specular menu button is gone (and all customization options) so I have no way of using a backup of the settings (options).
You can try the manual update. Just open theme files from a ftp account. Go to wordpress installation folder, wp-content/themes/specular. Rename the old theme folder and upload the new one.
In wordpress dashboard, proceed in updating the included plugins.
Please add some credentials in a private reply. So i can check. The Specular menu button is from a plugin as well, that’s why i asked for the included plugin’s situation.
