Portfolio element has different styles and many have the option to only open the featured image apart. What style have you selected? Can i please see a link of the page?

The image is linked to the portfolio item. But you have none created so it leads to an empty portfolio post. (Am i seeing the right site? screenshot)

First you need to add portfolio items. Add featured images to them. Then add the portfolio element in your page. Set the settings like this:
