I understand that each WP site is designed for a single blog. We have created a few private blog pages accessed by sharing the url. We used the Full Blog Visual Composer element and chose “Select A Specific Category” as this private blog has only one category. For example:
https://planforaction.com/2019-review/
1. We have been constructing a public blog with multiple categories: https://planforaction.com/ideas-and-news/
This is created using the Secular Settings,>General Option,>Select Blog Page “Ideas and News.”
We created the sidebar using the Sidebar Blog widget and selecting “Recent Posts” and “Categories.”
By using this method, ALL categories appear, including the private ones. And we don’t want that.Is it possible to use the Full Blog Visual Composer element and chose “Select A Specific Category” IF we have one Parent category for Ideas and News with the rest of the categories we want to appear as Children? And, if so, how do we set up the Sidebar Blog widget or do we need to create a custom sidebar?
2. In followup to the above, we would also like the category name to appear with each individual post. Is there a way to make this happen?
Look forward to y0ur advise.

Hello,
1. Yes for sure you can set a different category for any full blog element you use. So you can create different pages with WpBakery Visual Composer.
You can also create a row and separated in two columns: 3/4 + 1/4 wherein the first column you can add the full blog element and the 1/4 you can add the Widget element where you can put your sidebar.
Another solution is to change the layout of the pages : https://codeless.co/documentation/main.html#create_pages
So you can add a sidebar to any page you want.
2. You can show to any post the category it is easy: Specular > Blog Config > Show Blog Categories.
If you have any problem configuring it please share in a private reply you wp creds so we can make the changes for you.
Regards!

hello and thank you for creating the example. However, in both the posts shown and in the sidebar archives of the test you created, all of the categories still appear. We want to limit to just the nine post categories that apply to this blog. Can this be done?
We have been ambivalent about updating the theme in fear of losing the custom CSS, etc that’s been done over the past four years. Can you provide some guidelines to update without losing the customization?
Appreciate your time.
