When I added the element there was no visible text so I didn’t think anything would show. When I then viewed the live site I could see the sample text. I then added 1 letter and changed this to white and that has temporarily fixed the issue. It looks like I have to add some text – if I don’t do this I get the sample text.
Apologies but I’m not sure which version I upgraded from. I think it was about 10 months since I last updated. The website only gets used once a year so updates tend to get done all in one go just before we start selling products in time for the Christmas season.
I get these errors when I try to access Widgets under the Appearance heading:

I have temporarily added just one letter in to the Text field and made it white and that has got rid of the unwanted text but I would prefer to fix it in a better way.
