After Update Sidebars are empty

  After updating Specular I find my Footer and Header sidebars are empty. The widgets have disappeared from Footer-column1, Footer-column2, Footer-column3 and Header widgetized Area. How can I prevent the update process from deleting these settings? Is there a way to import/export all of the sidebar settings? The import/export sidebars link appears to only work for Custom Sidebars.

  Hello,
  
  Please go to Appearance > Widgets and scroll down the page. In the “Inactive widgets” area, you will see all your old widgets. Drag and drop them to the previous locations once again.
  
  This does not happen in every theme update. Did you update from a very old theme version?
  Let us know.

  Thanks for your help. I was upgrading from a ~6 month old version. I have things up and running again. Thanks for your assistance and the tip.
