I am replacing hosting server. I want to transfer the site (content & style). Can I use the Specular import/export for this purpose? Will it work even if I export from 2.3.2 and import to version 2.5.0?
When I click on the export I get the message “Can’t write file”. Could you please give me the directory/path where the files should be written so I can fix the permissions?
Once I have the exported files, where should I put them in order to do an import?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
The export feature is primary to save a backup your current site’s situation (option’s setup). Also to export the settings of one installment and import them into another one.
Updating theme from an old version to a recent one, can cause some changes if you are updating from a very old version and there are many important changes made in the new version. I suggest you import site in the new host, in your current situation. Same files as well. And after finishing the site transfer, then update theme files in the new host.
This way you are more in control of the changes in site. To be able to differ which changes came from server transfer, and which changes were because of the theme update. The backup files saved from the ‘Export’ operation in General Options > Import/Export (Dummy Data), are stored in wp-content\themes\specular\includes\dummy_data\backups folder in your server.
PS: For server to server site transfers, the “WP Migrate DB” plugin is recommended because it takes care of the url’s as well.
Let us know.
Best regards!

Thanks. I did as you suggested and used the same version. The export/import works good. But, I still encounter few issues:
1. The menu was not moved. So I had to manually create it on the new site. It would be nice if the import/export would also copy the menu.
2. Although the blog posts & images appear OK, in some pages the images do not appear and the thumbnail of the blog post do not appear as well. Do you have any idea why? Maybe this is connected to the next issue of empty media library.
3. The Media-library is empty. Is there any way to reload all the images from “wp-content/uploads” to the media-library? or maybe copy the relevant records from the data-base so the Medial-library will contain all the images?
Thanks again for the great support.

Hello,
1.Please can you try this plugin to export the menu: https://wordpress.org/plugins/menu-export/
2. Try this to regenerate the thumbnails: https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
3.No isn’t possible you have to upload them again. Only the attached images will be shown there.

Thanks you.
1. I did it manually. Took me 5 minutes. It would be nice if your import/export would handle this.
2 + 3 – I eventually copied the posts & posts_meta tables. It solved the problem. But again, it would be great if your import/export can handle this as well.
Overall, people want a simple import/export without need to start playing with multiple components. Since you are the selected theme, it would be great if your theme will take care of all components.
Thank you again for the support.
