I read in the forum that you do not support the basic page header style on single posts. Strangely, this is working on another page I’m running with this template. Must I be afraid to loose the feature when I update the template? Can I somehow add a basic page header to a single post?
The page header is set up in General Options > Default Page Header. You can save a backup of the current theme files if you want. Just rename the current theme folder and then add the new theme files.

What version of theme are you running there? Yes, it is possible for it to not be available anymore after update. However the updates hold very important changes and are needed for the site to not have issues in the future.
I suggest you keep both versions(of theme). Upload the latest update of theme files via ftp. Rename it’s folder name so that there aren’t two folders with the same name. Activate the new version, check how it affects the site. Switch back to old theme version if you do not like it.
