I was wondering if it were possible to alter:
a. number of related products and
b. their layout
… on the product detail page using my child theme’s functions.php file?
I’ve attempted a method suggested via WooCommerce Docs, but this caused a server error. The guide suggested that this method wouldn’t work for all themes, however.
Would it be possible to achieve this in Specular? I’d figure this route would be more desirable than altering the plugin files, as plugin updates wouldn’t undo the changes made.

Hello,
Both requests need coding. Theme does overwrite some of the Woocommerce files. You can find them in folder ‘woocommerce’ inside the main theme folder.
Copy this folder and add it into your child theme to further customize it.
Please keep in mind that personal customization is not included in support service.
