Thank you for the suggested changes to woocommerce code which has worked beautifully. I am using hard crop, but still have some images that are appear larger in product grid on shop page. See towards bottom at: https://www.davefoxartist1920.com/shop.

Also different question:  In portfolio I have some images that are very narrow horizontally and thus distorting to fill the square space, while it seems others are using a hard crop resulting in a cropped image with no distortion.  How can I eliminate the distortion (stretching to fill the width) on these images.  Is there a hard crop option here?
