shortcodes missing

  Hi,
  -When trying to add shortcode to the text editor on a portfolio page the screen that opens is completely empty. How can I add a button to a portfolio page?
  
  -The envato market api doesn’t work, probably due to a firewall at my host. Can I update specular via FTP? I’m thinking maybe the purchase code will f*** things up.
