I purchased Specular a couple months ago. The child theme is active on my site. Since a new version of the theme is out, I am trying to update the parent theme. I tried uploading the “specular” folder to the themes folder on the FTP site. After I did that, it said “<strong style=”box-sizing: border-box; caret-color: #4b4d4d; color: #4b4d4d; font-family: Raleway; font-size: 14px;”>The site is experiencing technical difficulties“. Prior to uploading the folder, I made a duplicate of the specular folder and renamed it specular_original. That way it’s still in the right folder and I could easily revert back to it by renaming it. When I uploaded the new specular folder, I let it override the other folder named specular. (I have reverted back to my original version of specular for the time being so the site works, it’s just not updated.)
I also tried uploading the zipped parent specular folder from the WP dashboard but that failed.
I did not upload any new plugins, in part because I have purchased a copy of Visual Composer and didn’t want issues with that.
Since the child theme is active, not the parent, I wouldn’t think I need to deactivate it in order to update the parent.
Can you help? I’m not sure how to get this to work.
There are two ways to update theme. Manually: replace old them files with the new theme files. Automatically: use a plugin like Envato Market to make the update process for you. It’s just one click and you are done.
We suggest keeping a copy of theme files if you have made any changes directly to them. Also make a backup of theme settings, by exporting all theme settings from Settings > Export menu. Then after an update, if anything has changed, you can import these settings again to your site.

I tried to login with the ftp credentials but it’s not possible. Can you please check them?
The wordpress credentials are ok. But i need the ftp as well to replace the files.
