Here is the answer from WPBakery concerning the latest update and the problems with the theme.
Hi,
The issue is because the older visual composer (now WPBakery Page Builder) was modified by the theme author by customizing the existing elements and adding the new one’s. Now when you updated it, the customization made by the theme author was lost which causes the issue. You can check it with the theme author if there is any way to preserve the customization done by him with the latest version, so that such an issue can be avoided at your end.

Yes, that is why you need to always use the included plugins! We update the theme frequently so there is no need for an external update. If you face any issue with the included plugin, let us know so we can fix it.
To start using the included version, just delete this version you have installed and refresh the page. You will get a message in the dashboard, asking you to install the required plugins. Follow the instructions and that’s it.

Sorry but this is not possible. I suggest you use the Custom HTML element of Visual Composer to add content that contains html tags. So you do not have to edit any of the theme files.
