if you are update the theme or plug-in please take the backup before doing that and i will recommend you to do updation on Staging or testing server then on production.

As for the language if you are talking about the admin side language, We need to change it into english in order to understand the options.
We have not touched anything other then the images setting which I have also discussed with you earlier.
