We are a bit confused about the correct procedure regarding the update of Specular to the current version.
We understand that it requires a new plugin to support WP Bakery.
However, some questions remain:
1. where can the plugin be loaded or is this included in wordpress catalog?2. is WP Bakery a discontinued product for Specular? If so, how do the pages need to be redesigned to prepare for this transition?
3. are there any known incompatibilities with plugins and if so where are they documented.
4. there is always talk about deactivating cache. Where is it possible to set this?
In sum, we are very unsure if we should do this update, especially since there are probably some ambiguities.
Besides the plugin issue, is there an overview of what the system requirements are?A similar request was also made by a user at: https://support.codeless.co/?topic=updating-without-breaking-site, but so far no answer received?!
It would be interesting to know why not.We would like to go to the current version, but only with a clear installation path to be sure not to break everything.
Thanks in advance for the answer.

Hi,
You can first of all take full backup of your website content and files to make sure if anything goes wrong you can revert back.
Yes that wp bakery compatibility plugin comes with the theme so no need to worry you can install and activate that one. By default our theme does not cache so if you are using any cache plugin you can play with that or from your server side cache you can ask your server management team to clear or deactivate cache as per your needs.
Rest process is same like installing a theme, but in this way you will just update theme folder with the old one [remember to keep full backup] then installing and activating any required plugins.
Same way you can update latest plugins as well which comes with the theme.
Let me know if you have any further query ?
Thanks

Sorry but I haven’t got it yet.
First of all it would be helpful (for all customers) to answer my questions ;o)
Second: So I should not update the teheehee as usual via die Envato PlugIn???
As I read a lot of issues in this forum, I’m really afraid to update.
A production website should not be down when the system is running… -
Hi,
Yes you can update, but the thing is always it is wise decision to keep full backup of your website. Because when theme or WordPress gets update its code base is updated which means it may not work well with some host providers. Like if certain code is made specific to php version 7 and say if someone using version 5 may get in to issue if he/she don’t have a backup.
In short keeping backup is only for your safety but you can update your theme or plugins how you want ?
I hope it is clear now ?
Thanks

Hi,
not yet as far as my questions are not answered ;o)
Sure Backup is always a “MUST”…1. update via Envato Plugin is the right way and is working?
2. is WP Bakery a discontinued product for Specular? If so, how do the pages need to be redesigned to prepare for this transition (in future)?
3. as you mentioned it: which minimum php-version is mandatory?
4. or a little wider: which system requirements are given for updating to 4.1x?
5. which plugins are known not to work with version 4.1x of the Specular theme?I appreciate your detailed answer on the specific questions, since I know already that having a backup is always a good idea ;o)
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Hi,
1. update via Envato Plugin is the right way and is working?
I would recommend to download package and update at your own to update properly.
2. is WP Bakery a discontinued product for Specular? If so, how do the pages need to be redesigned to prepare for this transition (in future)?
No, wpbakery is still working fine and you have to use backwards compatibility plugin now which is also included in the theme.
3. as you mentioned it: which minimum php-version is mandatory?
All such details are mentioned in the theme package but I just pointed it only for an example that which type of issues occur etc … it was only for an example but still you can get info inside package
4. or a little wider: which system requirements are given for updating to 4.1x?
Again anything if changed will be mentioned in the package files
5. which plugins are known not to work with version 4.1x of the Specular theme?
By now all are working [issue sometimes occur because WordPress core changed so did we our code and some server or related free plugins were not compatible but most of them or almost all are working fine again]
I appreciate your detailed answer on the specific questions, since I know already that having a backup is always a good idea ;o)I hope now you got your queries answered.
Thanks

Hi,
no downloaded the theme (update) but there’s NO()! Plugin “backwards compatibility plugin” included??? also not with another name…
I downloaded via Envato…Where can I find the PlugIn and why is it not included?
I’d like to upload a screen copy as an evidence, but where?

Hi,
At times plugin installer guide does not work so simply try to deactivate your theme and then activate it again to see that plugin installer option shows up.
Also make sure you keep back of full website like your customizer CSS and everything to avoid any issues if anything goes wrong.
Thanks

That was NOT my question! You announced, that the plugin “backwards compatibility plugin” is included in the downloaded files, but it isn’t.
I will not update, if the required data is not there.Unfortunately I can’t upload files here, otherwise I would send a screenshot of the loaded files that they can see that the plugin is not included in the files.
And why should I deactivate the theme and reactivate it again???

Hi,
My friend it is only a suggestion to see if that shows up after reactivating. Also, if you are not seeing those stuff I have to either get access to the admin panel or I can guide you so you can come out of it.
If you can provide me admin logins as a private reply along with FTP logins I will be checking for you that what is the issue ?
Thanks
-
Hi Akram,
you will not be able to see that stuff since I’ve only downloaded the actual version, but not yet installed, because I’d first check if I have als the resources and information with me.
In case of the plugin which should come along with the downloaded resources this is not so.
So where is the source of this Plugin with ensures the backward compatibility for WP Bakery?
-
Hi,
OK, don’t worry can I get just FTP logins so I can upload that for you ? Because without checking it will be tough for me and it will be extra time taking for you. I just want to make sure you get it done quickly.
Let me know what suits you best ?
Thanks
